Drink After DuskKaua‘i
Where do local folks hang when the moon is up and the surf is down? Their favorite neighborhood bars, of course. However, this is an island that shuts down early, so get started before 10 p.m. if you expect to catch a little action.
Hot spots on the North Shore include the ST. REGIS PRINCEVILLE, BAR ACUDA and BOUCHONS in Hanalei, and the HAPPY TALK LOUNGE at the HANALEI BAY RESORT. Don’t forget to break for a Mai Tai at the iconic TAHITI NUI RESTAURANT & TIKI BAR, featured in “THE DESCENDANTS.”
The PO‘IPU RESORT area, on the South Shore, is a good place to find jazz, local sounds and a little dance music. Check out RUMFIRE at the SHERATON KAUA‘I RESORT for late-night dining and dancing.
On the east side, you can find live music and a Kaua‘i-grown menu at OASIS BAR & GRILL at WAIPOULI BEACH RESORT. In Lihu‘e, DUKE’S BAREFOOT BAR at Kalapaki Beach spotlights contemporary Hawaiian music. Close by, the vintage NAWILIWILI TAVERN is a good place to grab a cold one and play a game of pool.
