Drink After DuskKaua‘i
Where do local folks hang when the moon is up and the surf is down? Their favorite neighborhood bars, of course. However, this is an island that shuts down early, so get started before 10 p.m. if you expect to catch a little action.
Hot spots on the North Shore include ST. REGIS PRINCEVILLE, BAR ACUDA and BOUCHONS in Hanalei. Don’t forget to break for a mai tai at the iconic TAHITI NUI RESTAURANT & TIKI BAR, featured in THE DESCENDANTS.
The PO‘IPU RESORT area, on the South Shore, is a good place to find great drinks, jazz, local sounds and a little dance music. Check out RUMFIRE at SHERATON KAUA‘I RESORT for late-night dining and dancing, STEVENSON’S LIBRARY at THE GRAND HYATT for jazz, and restaurants dotted throughout THE SHOPS AT KUKUI‘ULA for live tunes.
On the east side, you can find live music, good beverages and a Kaua‘i-grown menu at OASIS ON THE BEACH at WAIPOULI BEACH RESORT. In Lihu‘e, DUKE’S BAREFOOT BAR at Kalapaki Beach spotlights contemporary Hawaiian music. In Kapa‘a, HUKILAU LANAI restaurant and OLYMPIC CAFE are good spots to eat and drink with the locals.
