Get High on KiteboardingKaua‘i

From the technological advances of windsurfing, paragliding and wakeboarding comes a hot-new watersport called KITEBOARDING. This is an extreme sport that takes wind, guts, the right equipment and a lot of practice.

Here’s how it works: The kiteboarder is strapped to a board that looks like a small surfboard or wakeboard and is pulled across (and sometimes out of!) the water by an inflatable kite.

Sounds easy enough, but it takes trial and error to learn how to handle the equipment and coordinate the moves.

Take lessons from a certified instructor before you try it. Lessons and equipment are available at schools throughout the island.

On Kaua‘i, kiteboarders are often seen at FUJI (BABY) BEACH in Kapa‘a, off the MAHA‘ULEPU SHORE in Po‘ipu, at WAILUA BEACH and at HANALEI BAY on the North Shore.
