Hawaii's got talent. And there's a new show in town that proves it. Sunday through Friday nights, "Stars in Concert Hawaii" pays tribute to five of America's favorite musical starsfrom Elvis Presley to Whitney Houstonall on one stage.
Not only do the performers actually resemble the stars they're impersonating, but they really can sing. Accompanied by a live band, backup singers and energetic dancers, who are also fast-change artists, this is show that keeps audiences entertained.
The towering Jonathon Von Brana, appearing as show headliner Elvis, greets guests at the door for a photo-op before the show. Von Brana has appeared as Elvis in Las Vegas and Waikiki show rooms for more than 20 years, but this old pro's charm and sly humor are very reminiscent of a young Elvis. Husbands and fathers, be warnedthe King will not only serenade the lovely ladies in your party, he may even try to steal a kiss.
Each performer brings a unique energy and style to the show, and while in the audience one might find it hard to resist singing along to hits like Turner's "Proud Mary" or the Elvis classic "Blue Hawaii." A backdrop of glittering stars frame the stage, as clips of the original stars performing in concert or music video flash across large overhead video screens. Elvis may be the headline act here, but performances by the Blues Brothers and Elton John are crowd-pleasers as well.
The show is affiliated with "Stars in Concert," which has a cast list of more than 100 professional impersonators that perform across the globe in places like Las Vegas, Australia and Europe. Stick around for a meet and greet with the cast after the show. Dinner and cocktails are optional. The show begins at 6 and 9 nightly except for Saturdays. Head up the escalators to the 5th floor of the Waikiki Shopping Plaza. The show takes place in the New Lau Yee Chai Showroom and Restaurant.
