Mingle With the ArtistsMaui
Known as one of the Pacific’s premier art cities, LAHAINA boasts more ART GALLERIES per capita than any other U.S. town. Instead of sneaking into a gallery or two during the day to get your art fix, make a night of it. And the perfect opportunity—whether you’re hoping to recharge your creative juices or want a fun date with your travel companion—is to join locals and artists alike for LAHAINA’S ART NIGHT.
Every Friday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., more than two dozen galleries open their doors to the public past regular hours, pairing their collections with ENTERTAINMENT AND REFRESHMENTS. A lively gathering of experts and enthusiasts, Art Night allows visitors and locals alike to meet some of the galleries’ artists, listen in on musical performances and take in a variety of works.
Galleries that participate in this weekly event include the OLD JAIL GALLERY, run by nonprofit Lahaina Arts Society; THE VILLAGE GALLERIES, Maui’s oldest gallery; and Martin Lawrence Galleries, one of a chain of galleries around the U.S. that boasts sculptures and pop art. But don’t limit yourself to these great spots—there are numerous galleries with all kinds of finds, grinds (slang for “food”) and interesting folk.
Maps of participating merchants and galleries are available at the LAHAINA VISITOR CENTER.
