Spend The Day At Kailua BeachO‘ahu
Picture a powdery-white beach that stretches along the shore, a beach where gentle ocean conditions prevail year-round and obliging trade winds pump steam into windsurfers’ sails. This is KAILUA BEACH, recognized as one of the nation’s top beaches and a consistent favorite among lifeguards, coastal researchers, visitors and locals alike. In fact, it was named 2019’s TOP BEACH IN THE UNITED STATES BY DR. BEACH.
The reef and typically reliable ocean conditions allow for safe kayaking, with many people opting to paddle Kailua Beach’s calm waters to the nearby MOKULUA ISLANDS, a noted bird sanctuary.
Shops in the area, including those located at KAILUA BEACH CENTER, offer up all you’ll need to enjoy a full day at this whitesand beach. The center also is home to one of the island’s oldest watersport companies, KAILUA BEACH ADVENTURES, known for its beach equipment rentals, watersport instructors, guides and retail shop. Beach goers often head to the store for various KAYAK TOURS AND BEACH GOODS, like snorkel gear, stand-up paddle boards and even bike rentals. Kailua Beach is a short drive from Waikiki, just over the Ko‘olau Mountains. Situated on the island’s east shore, the beach is located in Kailua, a community of fewer than 40,000 people that attracts some 15,000 visitors per year, including former President Obama and the first family, who have spent Christmas vacations in Kailua since 2008.
Just a short drive from Kailua, you’ll find the breathtakingly beautiful WAIMANALO BEACH PARK. Here you’ll find 3 miles of sloping, white sands, turquoise seas and plenty of shade. The lifeguarded beach park has restrooms, showers, picnic tables and a pavilion. The beach also is noted for good bodyboarding, as waves are not too high and break close to shore. Bring a beach barbecue, chair and tent, and camp out all day!
